After reading Ben's blog about this place, I really wanted to come here. I've lived within ten minutes of this place for pretty much all my life and I haven't been here for approximately ten years.
Buddha Girl was barely awake so we didn't order too much. In the end, she really only ordered two dishes.
Har-gow and siu-mai are must-haves at all dim sum places, it defines how good a restaurant can be. Though big, these Steamed Crystal Prawn Dumplings (水晶鮮蝦餃) lacked some crunch (which was acceptable), but their skin was really "tough". The skin wasn't thick (good thing), but it was tough to chew through. I think they may have let it cool earlier then reheated again.
The other must have dish, Steamed Pork Shui Mai Dumplings (飛魚子燒賣). After eating one, I told Buddha Girl not to eat this. I give them kudos for using hand chopped pork, but it was fatty, mixed in with the stringy pieces of fat, I was pretty sure Buddha Girl's silk stomach would get sick.
Steamed Rice Flour Rolls with Prawns & Greens (碧綠鮮蝦腸粉), I really like it when a restaurant makes their own rice rolls rather than buying "ho-fun" (河粉) and wrapping meat inside. This place makes their own, the only problem, the rice roll has no flavour, even with the soy sauce, I could still taste how bland the rice roll was. Whatever, I'd still eat it.
Steamed Rice with Salted Fish & Pork Patty (鹹魚肉餅飯). Another dish that wasn't bad, not great, but overall, not bad.
Buddha Girl's dish, Pork Stomach with Pickled Veggie & Gingko Hot Pot (味菜白果豬肚煲). Aside from the deep fried bean curd sticks, this dish was pretty good, even for me. Buddha Girl liked it.
Chilled Goldfish Shaped Mango Pudding (香芒金魚仔), you can tell that it was powdered and had little, if any, mango juice/pulp. These still tasted okay, but Buddha Girl really liked the fish mold.
Overall, the food was pretty decent for the price, we would come back to try some other dishes. The decor was really nice, even the ladies room was acceptable (according to Buddha Girl, not me). The service was spotty, while this may be because it was closing time and they were in a hurry to clean up, but that really wasn't a good excuse.
