You see, despite the age and generation differences, MomJ always has more "activities" than we do. Can you believe that we were the ones sitting at home watching a rental movie while she was out dancing and partying and drinking (well, a glass of champagne)? Yups...that's what happened on new year's eve! LOL!
Since MomJ has plans for two out of the three-day weekend, we made her take us out for dinner. Yups...we were trying to make her feel guilty...what happened to cooking dinner for the kids??? LOL! Anyhow, Buddha Boy wanted to try the buffet at Starlight...why? Well, apparently, MomJ's friend said it was good, good, good. It's actually quite funny, we later found out that LemonDroplet and Marv (from 604 Munchies) also visited the buffet on the same night! But we missed each other by half an hour...hahahaha!!!
Simply put, it's a $12.99 food and a $12.99 service. Will we go again? Nope.

I used to work in a casino, so I was well aware of the camera policy, therefore, I couldn't really take any pictures of the food sitting in the line. But honestly, the plate pictures pretty much tells you what's there...yups...very limited. For $12.99, it's not bad...bearable. But as stated on their website, "a delectable buffet created by our very own Chef Rodrigo" (apparently this "Master Chef Rodrigo" was the veteran of two Michelin Star restaurants)...um...ok...speechless.
The buffet covered a good base of general selections, fish (basa) chicken (brined way too long), beef (Buddha Boy didn't like it, MomJ thought it was ok), roasted potatoes, veggies, bread (dinner buns), pasta salad (where we used as the base for our own spaghetti creations), tossed salad, tomato salad (looked quite gross), and a large flat of cake for dessert. Complimentary DIY tea and coffee, however, not the pop.Simply put, it's a $12.99 food and a $12.99 service. Will we go again? Nope.

About the camera policy, that is not true: I have done that at River Rock. The policy is that you can't take pictures of the gaming floor! ;)
ReplyDeleteAh, buffet... I usually leave it in the category of it is what it is. However, I believe that people have their expectations of buffet at casinos to be extremely high due to Vegas factor. You know, people say those buffets are large and "good". But, they forget these are buffet in the US.
Yups! At RR, cameras are allowed in the restaurants, and hotels, but not on the gaming floor. At Starlight, cameras are only allowed in Kirin and Shang Noodle House. Different casinos have different camera policies, house policies.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! We don't have the high expectations for $12.99, however, we did not expect to be such quality...after all, they did promo the chef as being a big time.
I wonder if Starlight is still owned by the Australian guy...hahahaha.
Really?? no cameras allowed int he restaurants?? Oh dear... we ended up taking pics at the buffet lol! But no one came up to us and said anything.. O_O yikes..
ReplyDeleteBG, camera restriction is a BCLC policy, not the casino operator (in this case, Great Canadian for RR, Gateway for Starlight and so on). That's why you can take pictures of any area of the casino except the gaming floor. There is no house policy per se, as it is BCLC who is above them. Now, if a casino operator has other policies, well, that would not be casino related but individual things.
ReplyDelete@Lemon:
ReplyDeleteHahaha, as long as your camera is not targeting on the gaming floor...then it's fine I guess...hahaha!
@Kim:
Oh i c i c! I was told before that BCLC set a base standards for the camera policies but the casino sets it even more for the policies (as for food establishments on the gaming floor)...hahaha I have been out of casino for so long that I am outdated or mis-info-ed! I got to check with my BCLC casino buddies...hahahaha!!!
