2011-01-19 Dinner @ Long's Noodle House

4859 Main Street, Vancouver, BC

Long's Noodle House on Urbanspoon
Honestly, I was not kidding when I mentioned that MomJ has more social activities than the two of us...actually...than the three of us (including Buddha Dog).  She has more dine-out dinners than we do, more parties than we do...she even has more "coffee & talk" sessions than we do...hahahaha!  Honestly, in our house, it's more like we're the parents and she's the kid...we often call and ask her questions like "are you home for dinner" or "when will you be home" or "don't be out too late"...sound familiar?  LOL!!!
Anyhow, since MomJ is pretty much ditching us again for the rest of the week, we made her take us out for dinner at Long's...hehehe...it was close to home and I wanted XLB!  Originally, I wanted two orders of Wine Pig Feet (糟豬手)...I love this!!!  But then. I quickly realized that when MomJ's around, we often receive "unexpected" dishes from the owners...so I ended up with only one order.
"Unexpected" dish #1 - Jelly Fish Head with Sesame (芝麻海螫頭絲).  This was crunchy and refreshing.  I was happy to see that Buddha Boy enjoyed it...something other than (and healthier than) deep-fried food...hahahaha!
Of course...we had to order the Steamed Mini Pork Buns (南翔小籠包)...and totally, in the end, we had three orders, so that's 18 XLBs!!!  And...I ate most of them!  In 604, Long's is my favorite place for XLB, next follows Wang's, then, Shanghai Ting.
I wanted something spicy so I ordered a Small Won-ton In Spicy Sauce (紅油抄手).  The wontons were firmly wrapped in Shanghai-style skins with Cantonese-style technique.  Lots of garlic and ginger in the spicy mix...yummy!!!
Of course, Buddha Boy and MomJ wanted their Yellow Fish with Seaweed (苔條黃魚)...however, they were a bit disappointed because each piece had thinner slices of fish but more batter...not as good as before.
I can't recall what this dish was...I think it was some kind of deep-fried meat...pork maybe?  Now looking at the picture...it's pretty sad-looking...hahahaha!
"Unexpected" Dish #2 - Crispy Rice With Salty Egg Sauce (鹹蛋黃鍋巴).  Originally, Buddha Boy wanted to order this, but we told him not to because of the carbs, but Sandy (owner) spoiled and pampered Buddha Boy with a complimentary order...hahaha...Buddha Boy gets spoiled everywhere he goes!  LOL!!!
Another reason why we wouldn't let Buddha Boy order the crispy rice was because he ordered the Shanghai Style Pan-Fried Thick Noodles (上海粗炒)...another carb-dish.  This was tasty, but it's more a "vegetarian" dish because it had very minimal meat in it...Buddha Boy was not too happy about it.
"Unexpected" dish #3 - Sesame Ball in Rice Wine Soup (桂花酒釀芝麻湯圓).  This was basically black sesame glutinous rice balls in fermented rice and sweet olive dessert soup.  I had to eat this mostly on my own because Buddha Boy doesn't like sweets and MomJ doesn't like glutinous rice balls.  More food for Buddha Girl!!!

  1. Hi, Buddha Girl:
Love your post about this place as I heard about their famous Crispy Rice dish so much. Looks good and thanks for your review on the other dishes. Still salivating over the smoked duck we had at Top Gun Richmond.
    Happy 2011^-^
