Rikka Japanese Kitchen on Urbanspoon
After my usual Monday appointment with my Chinese herbal doctor, I decided to visit Rikka again for something quick and easy...yup...a REPEATED visit.
I decided to order a rice combo this time and it came with a Miso Soup...a bit on the bland side...nothing special.
My Unagi Don.  Sorry, I should have taken the picture along with the miso soup to show how small the portion was...it was SMALL!!!  The eel tasted ok, but it was too soft in texture.  The teriyaki sauce was a bit too sweet.
Here's the "Opening Special" menu, please click on the picture for larger view.
I do like Rikka, it's a small and comforting Japanese restaurant, however, this visit was a bit on the disappointing side.  Also, I recall the owners told me that they are Japanese, and every time I visited, they have always communicated in Japanese with each other.  But this time, the increased number of Korean dishes (not shown on above special menu) added to their menu kinda confused me...

  1. By Korean dishes, are you referring to the Spicy Pork on the menu? There isn't anything else on the menu you posted that comes off obvious to me as Korean.

As for the Unagi don, it does look a bit disappointing to say the least. Like you pointed out, looks way too soggy/soft. This is one of the main reasons I have given up on ordering Unagi in Vancouver anymore. No restaurant thus far can get the true smokey/charcoal flavor that you can only get in Japan.

  2. Hello Jer!

Sorry, I was speeding through when typing this post so I made it quite confusing...I confused myself too! LOL! The added Korean dishes are posted on the wall and also as inserts in their regular menu...not on the "Opening Special" menu...sorry!!! Next time I visit I will take some pictures of Korean items...

As for unagi don...yea...it's not the greatest...way too soft and soggy...I am looking forward to the return of TG's Japanese chef so I can have some nice unagi...yum!!!
