Top Gun J&C on Urbanspoon
YAY!!!  Kenji-san is back!  Last July, Kenji took a lengthy time off to rest...now he's back...that means I can have my uni again!!!
To start, we were given a couple of complimentary appetizers.  First was the Tako-Wasabi (山葵八爪魚).  Other than this being too salty, it's actually quite refreshing.
The second complimentary appetizer was the Shark Fin Salad (魚翅沙).  While the octopus salad was salty, this was a bit on the bland side.  This was crunchy, but was not as refreshing as the tako salad.
The first thing Buddha Boy ordered was the Uni Sashimi (海膽刺身) .  You see, long ago, I had a horrifying experience with uni that turned me into an anti-uni person (cook or raw) for about five or so years.  The first time we ordered it at TG, I refused to eat it, but Buddha Boy insisted that I should try a bite...and ever since, I would only eat uni at TG and only when Kenji-san approves it...hahahaha!  Yup, I'm a snob.
With Kenji's return, TG put out a new menu featuring some their new Japanese dishes.  One part that interested us was the "Special Sushi Canape" (精美壽司小食) menu .  At $4.95 for two pieces, it's pricey, but it's something new to try.  While the smoked salmon ones were pretty nice and refreshing, the prosciutto & quail egg sushi was a miss.  The Ankimo, or monkfish liver, was smooth and sweet.  This was our first experience with "foie gras of the sea"...and it won't be our last.  We'd definitely order this again.
Of course, we had to order the signature Peter Roll (特式炸蝦捲) and Mango Roll (蟹肉鮮芒卷).  Though this tasted just as good as before (especially the mango roll), but these have gone up in prices.
It's still the season for Alaska King Crab (阿拉斯加皇帝蟹), so we invited AuntieJ along for dinner.  The four of us had a nine pound crab..yup...that's a lot of crab!!!
I like my AKC steamed...so, we've got nothing but three plates of Steamed AKC with Minced Garlic (蒜蓉蒸皇帝蟹).  Yup, all pieces including all the joints and knuckles.
The juices from all three plates of steamed crab were then gathered to make a Garlic Crab Sauce with Thin Egg Noodles (蒜蓉蟹汁炒幼麵)...this was good...YUM!!!
I had the craving for Sand Ginger Boneless Free-Range Chicken (沙薑無骨走地雞).  Buddha Boy and I are not big fans of free-range chicken because the meat tend to be more tough and chewy, but this was tender and fragrant.  This was good.  Other than the chicken, we also ordered a veggie dish and a soup...but I was too busy with my AKC...so no pictures...hahahaha!  We ended the night with complimentary green bean (mung bean) dessert soups.
Here's the menu for Japanese dishes at TG, brought to you by Kenji-san.  Hahahaha!  Please click on the menu for larger view.
We brought home the "body" of our AKC so we could wash it up and put it on Buddha Dog's head...hahaha!  Yup, it's Buddha Dog's annual "crowning" moment...LOL!!!
