Buddha Boy has asked me not to be mean and write about the food at his buddy's wedding banquet. Am I really that mean when it comes to below-par or substandard food? Okay, I guess I am...hahahahaha! Few years ago, my god-sister, Terry, held her wedding here...slipshod service and so-so food...it was not too memorable. Couple weeks ago, MomJ attended a wedding banquet here, the food was okay but it was warm, not hot. This visit, the service was pleasant but the food was depressing. Sigh...it's unfortunate to see that Shiang Garden in Vancouver is nothing like the one in Taiwan, in service, food or ambiance.
I must agree with Buddha Boy, this restaurant was gorgeous...beautiful table settings...beautiful chair covers...beautiful chandeliers. While the floor plan was not too favorable, it's no doubt a nice place to hold a banquet, that's, of course, if you don't care much about the quality of food or service...LOL!!!
Since Buddha Boy requested, I decided to just show the pictures. I forgot to snap photos of the following: steamed rock cod, braised sea cucumber, braised lobsters, almond cookies and sesame balls.
Sweetened Red Bean Cream with Lotus Seeds (百年好合)...a common dessert choice to end a wedding banquet. Honestly, this was nothing special, but it was the most edible item of the night.
To look after all the hockey fanatics who attended the wedding on a game night, the newly-weds printed some towels for selected guests (including us) to cheer on the team. I thought this was a sweet touch...this was something extra on top of the wedding favors.

Darn. I was going to say how I was there the same night as you (for dinner, not for someone's wedding), but I realized I went on Sunday... not Saturday!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Shiang, how I loathe thee
LOL!!! Next time we go Taiwan I gotta take Buddha Boy to SG in Taiwan, so he can truly know the differences...it's like night and day!!!
