Tibisti Foods & Grill on Urbanspoon
A quick little trip to the halal grill on Victoria Drive at 54th Avenue.  I wasn't expecting to order much...but knowing us...
This family-run joint had a very simple and clean layout.  The father and sons were very friendly.  Buddha Girl had fun taking pictures everywhere.  There's a meat counter for their raw meats and a separate counter to order the cooked stuff.  I believe they serve all halal meats, which explained why their prices were a bit on the higher side.
I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Platter.  At $10.99, price was a bit high for the setting.  The chicken was cooked nicely, a bit of char to give the meat taste and texture.  The taste of lemon marinade did not overwhelm the meat.  The rice was pretty standard.  The potatoes could have used some crusting.  The caesar salad was overdressed.  Overall, I enjoyed it.
Buddha Girl ordered the Roast Lamb Meal and loved it.  The braised lamb had a simple flavor and was extremely tender.  I thought it tasted a bit bland, but Buddha Girl thought it was just right.  The meat had minimal to none gaminess.  I think it would taste even better if they put it on the grill to tighten up the meat a bit.  At $11.99, this was a decent platter.
And for fun, I  added a Chicken Tibisti Wrap, which I enjoyed the most.  The wrap was tight with ample ingredients.  The pita was heated nicely on the grill.  At $5.99, this was a good deal.
Overall, the food here was pretty good.  We plan to return to try other items on their menu.  This place reminded me of Graze Market, but a Mediterranean version of it.  Graze, a restaurant within a market with a grill and a smoker, serves grass-fed and free-ranged meats.  With a similar concept, Tibisti focused on the Mediterranean food and serves halal meat.
