How did we end up at Knight & Day? Well, first, we visited Venice Garden 海皇美食, which was the old Happy King 海皇美食...notice the identical Chinese name? Yup, same owner, same management, same crew. We were seated promptly and were given the menu right away. After reading the menu for a good five minutes, we tried waving down the servers. Well, two out of the four servers were on a break (sitting down eating). One male server saw us as he delivered food to another table, but he chose to ignore us after...he literally ignored us and went to sort clean dishes right outside the kitchen. A female server who was on the other side of the restaurant had her back to us most of the times. Buddha Boy started to wave, but no luck. Even the off-duty (on break) servers saw us but didn't bother telling their colleagues. Yup, we walked out, and this was the second time, in a row, that we walked out of this restaurant.
We then drove over to Happy Valley 名閣海鮮酒家. The restaurant closes at midnight and we arrived at 11:05pm. There were two servers who had their backs to us while they tried to figure out some computer problems. We waited for another five minutes before we walked out again. Idiots.
We were not happy campers. We were hungry and we needed food. Not wanting to drive any further, we stop at this 24hr restaurant. After venting our unpleasant experiences to our server, she complimented us with two bowls of Manhattan Clam Chowder. AuntA & UncleE used to take my brother and I here quite often back when we're kids and this soup was one of my must-haves. The soup was still thick and creamy, but it was not as chunky as before...or could it be that my definition of "chunky" has changed since my childhood? Hahahaha!
Of course, Buddha Boy could not resist the Klassic Kalamari. Soggy and oily, these sad-looking squid rings were not too memorable. The accompanied pita bread was light and warm. The tzatziki sauce tasted pretty standard.

Under "The K&D Classic Burger" section, Buddha Boy ordered a "The Hulk" Beef Burger with bacon, of course. Instead of fries, Buddha Boy opted for onion rings, which was nothing spectacular. The bacon was not crispy. The sausage was grilled nicely. The egg was nothing special. The beef was quite juicy, but Buddha Boy would've preferred more char on the patty,
Also under "The K&D Classic Burger" section, I ordered a Mushroom Swiss Chicken Burger. The mushrooms were nicely sauteed and the chicken breast was amazingly tender. Overall, Buddha Boy and I enjoyed our visit to this long-standing family restaurant.

The last time I was at Knight and Day, I had the Kalamari and felt ripped off. For a similar price, I could have eaten at Stepho's.....that must have been 10 years ago, haha!
ReplyDeletemmmmm...Stepho's, BG has never been, and me, only once.
