I have not visited this restaurant since it re-opened after renovations. I frequently visit the hot pot restaurant next door, but never here...mainly because I have not yet heard anything nice about it...hahahahaha!
Spacious, clean, bright and modern. There were two servers but service was slow and inattentive...there were only four tables of customers and each table only had three or less people...inexcusable.
The Pig Blood & Pork Intestine in Soup 豬血大腸湯 was good. I have not had good pork blood for a very long time. While these blood cubes were not bouncy ("red tofu" texture), but they were very smooth. The pork bung pieces were clean and chewable. The soup was a little bland and the sour veggies were pretty tasteless.
The Deep Fried Chicken Nuggets 鹽酥雞 was a disappointment. Yes, it had basil...but the chicken was bland. I didn't see or taste any salt, pepper or five-spice power. There were a couple of "no chicken" pieces...just deep-fried batter...I was not too impressed.
Hahaha! Another dish with blood cubes and pork bung? Yup!!! The Pork Intestine & Pig Blood in Hot Pot 五更腸旺 was a good size...well...at $11.50, it better be a good size. Personally, I thought the price was quite expensive for a restaurant like this...the price didn't even come with a drink or a bowl of white rice...I had to order the rice separately!!! Cheap Buddha Girl was not too pleased...hahahaha! Anyhow, the pork blood was just like the soup earlier...smooth but not bouncy. The pork intestine was cooked long enough to absorb in the flavors of the broth. The stew broth, however, was too watery and lacked spiciness.
