2011-08-20 Lunch @ Home Restaurant

Home Restaurant on Urbanspoon
It was time for Buddha family's annual exercise so we forayed into the Fraser Valley.  Well...we were mainly after the Triple Sweet Chilliwack corn...even Buddha Dog has a love for it.

This was the place where Bella & Worm bought the corn when they came over to our place for dinner (see post 2011-08-07 Celebrating 88 @ Chez Buddha).  The Sparkes Corn Barn has a few locations around Chilliwack.  We showed up just before their stated opening time and in the five minutes we were there, they already had five customers, quite popular.
To build an appetite, we first went to Bridal Veil Falls, or commonly known as Bridal Falls.  I made Buddha Girl and Buddha Dog climb past the designated viewing point.  We climbed the rocky trails and ended up at the half way point of the fall.  The fall was beautiful.
Next, we headed over to Othello Tunnels.  Having been born and raised in Vancouver, I've never been to the tunnels.  We really enjoyed our walk, except Buddha Dog.
Time for food.  We were starving.  While waiting for our table, Buddha Girl took a picture of their Apple Pie displayed at the front waiting area.  She was already planning for dessert!  Unfortunately, she was too full at the end of our meal...and I "forgot" to remind her to grab one to go.
Prior to our trip, we already studied the menu and knew what we were going to order.  Buddha Girl wanted the Breaded Pork Chops.  This came with a side of stuffing, daily fresh garden veggies, a choice of mashed potatoes, rice, or fries.  The most boring part of this dish was the veggies, which was bland, but everything else was good.  The mashed potatoes was smooth and buttery without being heavy.  The stuffing was simple and tasty, not heavy.  The pork chop was lightly breaded, but most importantly, perfectly cooked.  The chop wasn't the thickest pork chop around, but it was very tender and moist.  Buddha Girl requested to have the house gravy on the side.  The gravy was rich, but again, not heavy, however, it wasn't really necessary.

I had the Schnitzel Champignon, simply schnitzel with mushrooms.  I opted for rice as my side...must be the Chinese in me.  The rice was decent, good texture with a simple flavor.  The veggies were just as boring as Buddha Girl's plate.  The schnitzel was the highlight, like the pork chop, it was very tender and perfectly cooked.  The lightly-crisped breading had a good seasoning.  Mushrooms were cooked nicely on the grill to a dry yet tender texture.  The sauce topping the schnitzel was really, really good, but it's probably not the most healthy around.  I tasted bacon and onions in the sauce and I loved it!  Buddha Girl enjoyed too.

We love this place!  The servers were attentive and extremely nice.  Even at 2pm, the restaurant was very busy.  This is one diner we'd definitely return to.
