While TG is our canteen, but their selections for dim sum menu are weak and boring...so yup, we're staying away for a while...just for dim sum.  When MomJ suggested to go for lunch somewhere in Richmond (because she has to play MJ afterwards), we thought about this place in Continental Centre 置地廣場 (since it's also close to her MJ place).
I made the reservation for 1pm, but still ended up waiting for approximately thirty-five minutes.  The restaurant was smaller than I imagined.  I should have took a picture of our table...we were seated at a tablecloth-covered MJ table...hey MomJ, you could've just eat and play here...wahahahahaha!
We asked for XO Sauce and this was what we got...um...quite sad huh?  I sure hope this was a mistake.
The Deep Fried Scallop Pastries w/Taro Paste 荔茸帶子盞 were quite sad.  The scallops were fishy and the taro paste didn't have much taro fragrance.
The Pan Fried Turnip Cake w/XO Sauce XO醬炒蘿蔔糕 was quite dense, but it was a million times better than Come Along 金龍船...these at least had the daikon taste.
The Rice in Soup w/Seafood & Minced Pork 海鮮肉碎泡飯 was crap.  First of all, the fishy scallops made the whole broth fishy.  Next, I was not too keen on the cheap quality 冬菜...maybe they used it to cover up the fishy taste?  The bowl had very limited amount of seafood varieties and minced pork.  The broth was also very salty.
The Steamed Shrimp Dumplings 龍景軒蝦餃皇 were pretty standard in quality.  Not the greatest but not too bad neither...similar to TG's recent quality (which went downhill from previous years).
The Steamed Egg Yolk w/Cream Bun 蛋黃流沙飽 was another disappointing dish.  The dough was dense...and for some reasons...tough.  The egg yolk did not "ooze"...Buddha Girl was not happy.
The worst dish of the visit has got to be the Chinese Donuts Wrapped w/Rice Rolls 肉鬆炸兩腸.  The donut was old and re-fried for too long to the point that it was too tough to eat.  The wrap, however, was quite thin.
Buddha Boy was quite excited to see Deep Fried Shrimp Spring Rolls 金蒜蝦春卷 on the menu, but was disappointed when the dish arrived.  These looked skimpy, felt skimpy, tasted skimpy.
The Steamed Siu Mai 魚子燒賣皇 was the final dish to arrive.  Thank goodness...not sure how long I could put up with all the bad food!  LOL!  The shrimp was poor in quality (no crunch), the tobiko had a funky taste (tasted as if it turned bad already) and the pork was mainly fat chunks.  No good.
The two female hosts at the entrance were rude and ignorant, however, we were quite impressed with the service by the table servers.  Tables were not spacious enough for comfortable seating.  Tea quality sucks.  Will we return?  Absolutely not.

  1. I don't know if it's because I don't actually like dim sum (I go more for the ambiance and as a habit.), but I seriously have not been to any good dim sum place in Richmond (or even Vancouver). Kirin and Red Star on Granville are probably 2 of the best I've been to, but even Kirin is hit or miss sometimes and both places are quite pricey. Do you have any suggestions for good dim sum restaurants?

I love dim sum! Unfortunately, there's really no one restaurant that has all "hits" for their dim sum. We've been to both Kirin (all locations except Starlight) and Red Star (both locations) and we didn't enjoy either.

We go to TG J&C often mainly because they are consistent with the quality but even so, they have their hits and misses, more misses nowadays, plus their dim sum menu is quite boring.

Recently, Buddha Boy likes Fraser Court in Vancouver and I like Grand Dynasty in Burnaby...but again, it's personal preference and they both have hits & misses.

In terms of tea quality, no questions top choice will be TG J&C...especially I know where they get their tea and how much each type of "tea" costs...wahahahahaha! Just a tip, when dim sum at TG J&C, always ask for the pu-er 普洱...hehehehe!
