It was my veggie day so I dragged Buddha Boy to redeem the SocialShopper voucher (3Q3Q KimHo for the gift!) at this Taiwanese-style Buddhist vegetarian restaurant in Downtown. This was actually my second visit. I wanted to redeem the voucher on my first visit but the stupid Buddha Girl didn't read the fine prints...it was only valid for redemption after 5pm...Buddha Girl dumb-dumb! Wahahaha!
Wouldn't be more appropriate if they provided chopsticks and a spoon? Or a knife and a fork? Even a fork and a spoon? But chopsticks and a fork? Okay...I guess I need to update myself in this western world.
My choice of starter was the same as my first visit, Cucumber Jelly Salad 黃瓜拌粉皮, however, I did not enjoy it this time. This cold dish was not chilled enough to give that refreshing taste. This was bland and the only thing we could taste was a light kick of spiciness.
The Deep Fried Wontons 炸餛飩 weren't exactly what we expected. These were basically deep-fried mochi balls. Yup...mochi balls inside wonton wrappers...NO GOOD!
We really enjoyed the Shanghai Fried Noodles 上海粗炒. While the absent taste and color of "soy" (and of course, the pork) didn't quite make this a classic stir-fry, but the overall dish was very tasty.
The Sweet & Sour Soya Steak 糖醋素排 was another yummy dish. These black pepper soy patties were gently coated with a light sweet syrupy sauce. The soy meats had a texture similar to breakfast sausage patties, and honestly, these were not bad at all.
