CW suggested hot pot for dinner. This was my second visit to the restaurant. My first visit, which was also with CW, was approximately a year ago (see post 2010-11-26 Dinner @ K.K. Dollar Hot Pot 開開豆撈坊).
The restaurant looked the same as before. We were the first table for the night so we were pretty much given the choice to sit anywhere - we opted for a booth.
I had the House Spicy Soup 香濃麻辣鍋 (on the left) and CW had the Sour Cabbage and Fish Soup 酸菜魚片鍋 (on the right). Compared to our first visit, the spicy broth had a lot more depth, but it was a bit oily. The broth was spicy, but not "hot" (麻). CW's fish soup was a blend of fish and pork broths, it was light yet flavorful.
AYCE menu selections were nothing too different from other AYCE hot pot restaurants. What's unique here was the L-shaped DIY sauce bar located at the corner of the restaurant...yes...an AYCE bar of dipping ingredients!!!
With a $5 jug of Sour Plum Juice 酸梅湯, our bill before tax and tips was $59.10. In the end, we paid $72.10...that's an average of $36.05 per person!!! Ouch!!! Yes, this place was not cheap, however, the beauty of having individual pots (and individual broths) to avoid food allergies and restrictions is quite beneficial when planning an AYCE hot pot gathering for a larger group of people.
