Octopus and I hooked up for dinner in Richmond since Buddha Boy had a must-attend company function in the area. We ended up at Gokudo Shabu Shabu Hot Pot 極道涮涮鍋 because (1) it was a bit chilly, (2) Octopus wanted hot pot and (3) this place is Buddhist/Taoist vegetarian-friendly.
Our meal was not cheap. Each combo was $18.95 plus $2 vegetarian soup base and tax. Our bill, before tips, was $46.93...grrr...not ideal for people like us (cheap Buddha Girl and stingy Octopus)...
Compared to Pearl Hot Pot 珍珠小火鍋, a similar establishment in Burnaby, this place was slightly smaller and had less seats/tables. We really didn't have much of a choice other than ordering Vegetarian Style Shabu Shabu Combo 精選素鍋套餐.
Right after we ordered, instead of just giving us regular sa-cha sauce, our thoughtful server asked if we'd prefer Vegetarian Sa-Cha Sauce 素沙茶醬. Octopus and I were pleased with her attentiveness. About five minutes later, our pots of vegetarian broth arrived. Each of our combos came with a meat-based House
Special Soup Base 清湯底, but we each paid $2 to have the Vegetarian Soup Base 素湯底 instead.
Each combo had an accompaniment of Rice 白飯, Udon 烏冬 or bean thread 粉絲. A drink of either Black Tea 紅茶, Green Tea 綠茶, milk tea 奶茶 or melon tea 冬瓜茶 was also included with each combo.
Octopus and I each received a Vegetable Plate 青菜綜合盤. We also requested to have this to be Buddhist/Taoist vegetarian-friendly.
We each received a "meat" plate, consisted of all vegetarian meats. Other than the vegetarian fish tofu, nothing else was enjoyable. Our meal was not cheap.
