Often, after my Chinese herbal doctor, I like take a little detour and drive up Fraser Street to see what's old and new. On this day, I noticed something new took over the old spot of Koon Lock Restaurant 冠樂美食之家. With grand-opening flowers outside their entrance, Deer Garden Signatures 鹿園魚湯米線 opened its third location just this past weekend.
Okay, I've visited and blogged about Deer Garden Signatures 鹿園魚湯米線 numerous times (see posts 2011-07-03 Dinner @ Deer Garden Signatures 鹿園魚湯米線, 2011-09-28 Lunch @ Deer Garden Signatures 鹿園魚湯米線 and 2012-06-20 Lunch @ Deer Garden Signatures 鹿園魚湯米線), but, other than my first visit, each time ended with more disappointing than the previous.
Similar decor, similar menu, similar service. Other than its location, it's pretty much a McD of fish soup noodles...hence "chain" restaurants.
Yes, the boring fat me went with the same old options of Udon 烏冬 in Parsley & Century Eggs Fish Soup 芫茜皮蛋魚湯 (no cabbage, no bean curd) with Pork Intestine 豬腸 and Pork Stomach 豬肚. And, to clarify the confusion, it's cilantro, not parsley...damn Chinese restaurants...hahahaha!
The broth was fishy, while not as bad as the one from Benss Cafe 本色時尚餐廳 (see post 2012-01-06 Dinner @ Benss Cafe 本色時尚餐廳), but awful enough that I had to load it with tons of white pepper. The pork intestine was acceptable but the pork stomach was too chewy. Udon was overcooked. Oh...and I felt VERY thirsty after...
Servers were friendly, but lacked attentiveness. I visited at approximately 3pm and the restaurant was not busy. Luckily, on this chilly day, I was served hot tea as soon I sat down, but not so lucky for at least two tables after me...no tea was served, not even after they placed/received their orders.
