Originally, Octopus wanted to snuggle with her blanket and bum around at home, but when "hot pot" was mentioned, she just simply could not resist. So here we were, at our favorite non-AYCE mini pot joint, Pearl Hot Pot 珍珠小火鍋.
The restaurant recently went through some renovations, not much, but good enough to get rid off the dated look. The servers were...quite new, I think. Mind you, we haven't been here for approximately three months.
Octopus and I pretty much ordered the same combinations every time. She would go for the Special Pork Shoulder Pot 特選梅花豬肉鍋 with a clear broth (included in combo) while I would pay extra for the spicy broth to accompany the Bacon Pot 培根豬肉鍋. Each combo came with a vegetable platter and a choice of udon, vermicelli or white rice. A drink (choice of black/green/fruit tea) and a small cup of ice-cream (flavor varies) were also included. Dips were included and there's no charge for extra sauces.
Perhaps we were "too comfortable" with the restaurant, we didn't really follow where the server wanted to seat us. Instead, we went for the corner spots where I could peek into the kitchen. Okay, this would gross you out, but you will be surprised with how many restaurants out there, especially hot pot restaurants, do not rinse their vegetables. That sounds pretty shivering to me. Now, I must give compliments to the owners (the couple in the kitchen) of Pearl Hot Pot 珍珠小火鍋. Not only that they took time and rinsed all the vegetables, they even cut off any unpleasant areas then soak all vegetables before rinsing them. That's TLC towards their customers. Thumbs up!
