It's Friday...and we're searching for food again.  With MomJ being picky about this and that, it's really hard for us to settle with just anything.  We ended up in Richmond (again) and scouted for food in Continental Plaza 置地廣場.
Actually, at first, we wanted to try Cafe Cameron 金馬港式餐廳, the newest addition to the plaza.  After being seated and served tea, the three of us got up and left after realizing how limited and expensive the menu was.  We ended up walking into the restaurant right next to it, which was Sing Yee Chinese Restaurant 勝意食館.
After placing our orders, we were served Kudzu Root & Pork Bone Soup 葛豬骨湯, which was the complimentary soup of the day.
First up was a half bird of Steamed Chicken with Salted Ginger Sauce 馳名沙薑雞.  The sand ginger (Kaempferia galanga) flavor was there, but it was not strong enough to be aromatic.  The chicken was overcooked.
The Braised Fatty Meat with Preserved Vegetables 梅菜扣肉 was something I wanted.  The mui-choy was a bit too sweet, but it was not salty.  The meat was soft yet still maintained its texture and form.  This was the best dish of our visit.
This was suppose to be Green Bean w/Minced Pork & Dried Olive 欖菜肉鬆四季豆, but we didn't see nor taste any dried olives.  The green beans were not deep-fried long enough to perfect the desired texture.  While this tasted okay, it was disappointing.
The Pork Chop in Peking Style 京都肉 had a good meat-to-bone ratio.  The sauce was a bit too sweet and the oil used for deep-frying was old...we could actually taste the bad oil...yuck.
MomJ wanted fish so we were sold on the Steamed Rock Cod 清蒸石斑.  The fish was perfectly steamed.  Other than the sauce being a bit too salty, we really had no complaints.  My rules for steamed fish: (1) must be swimming, (2) must be less than two pounds and (3) absolutely no basa.
Honestly, this restaurant was not bad, but it wasn't great either.  We weren't pleased with our server who was being way too friendly to the point of being intrusive.  This place takes credit cards, which give it an advantage over many cash-only restaurants, but then, Golden Bauhinia Restaurant 金紫荊小館 also takes credit cards and it offers better selections, better prices, better service, better food.  While we're not ruling this place out, it's most likely not a return for usFor the same price, there are better choices.
