After fighting the Black Friday crowd at Woodburn Company Stores, we needed more food. We took a long route out of the outlet mall, which was a twenty-minute detour through the side roads. We ended up arriving at Lardo before Octopus and HoCloud, who left the mall before we did. GPS guided them through the main roads which took longer because of the backlogged wait times. They ended up at Lardo one hour after we arrived. Of course, we didn't wait, we were hungry.
What? A Salad? Yes, we do try to look after our heath, after all. Buddha Girl and I thought the pig's ear in this Crispy Pig's Ear Salad was too tough and chewy. The sunny-side egg didn't work for us. As for the bacon vinaigrette, we couldn't quite detect the "bacon", but the "vinaigrette" part was good to balance the dish. Not something we'd order again.
I knew I had to order Dirty Fries when I saw "pork scraps". The fried herbs and parmesan went well with the fries. The peppers helped cutting the fattiness of the pork. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the fries, herbs and parmesan, but not so much the peppers and pork scraps. This dish is meant to be shared, perhaps with two or more people.
This Cold Fried Chicken was an amazing sandwich. The chicken was cold (hence, the title), but it was deliciously moist. The soft bun and the subtle spicy blue cheese complimented the chicken well. There's nothing to improve on this. This was my favorite of the visit.
Another savory sandwich was the Pork Belly, Egg & Cheese. The pork was done well to that melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. The egg went well with the package. The only down side was that the sandwich was too one-dimensional in texture. Perhaps I should've added a couple pieces of chicharron for that contrasting texture? Maybe next time.
Octopus and HoCloud showed up right before we left. They went with the Korean Pork Shoulder (top) and the Pork Meatball Banh Mi (bottom).
After Lardo, we drove a short distance and visited another food cart that was featured on Food Network's Eat St. Yup, we do live to eat...
The menu at Lardo was simple. While there were beef and chicken, but the menu was mainly pork. At one point, they took "Dirty Fries" off the menu, but when we visited, we were told that it's available.
These have got to be the best Chicharrón that I have ever had. These were light, airy and had very minimal oil to it. Accordingly to the menu, these were lightly dusted with "smokey rubinson", which I have no idea what it was, but it's got a nice kick on top of the smokiness. Buddha Girl and I enjoyed this. What?
